Dr. Ramona Negrón

Ik ben historicus en schrijver, gespecialiseerd in vroegmoderne koloniale, maritieme en slavernijgeschiedenis. 

Momenteel ben ik werkzaam als postdoc aan het KITLV/Koninklijk Instituut voor Taal-, Land-, en Volkenkunde, waar ik onderzoek doe naar de overgang van slavernij naar burgerschap in de Nederlandse Cariben.

In 2025 promoveerde ik aan Universiteit Leiden op een proefschrift over de Nederlandse betrokkenheid in het Spaanse rijk tussen 1580 en 1700. 

Daarnaast ben ik Editorial Assistant bij the New West Indian Guide, Editorial Board Member van de Early Modern Low Countries, bestuurslid van de Werkgroep De Achttiende Eeuw, redacteur bij Holland Historisch Tijdschrift, en freelance onderzoeker.

I am a historian and writer specializing in early modern colonial, maritime, and slavery history.

I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at the KITLV (Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies), where I study the transition from slavery to citizenship in the Dutch Caribbean.

In 2025, I obtained my PhD from Leiden University with a dissertation on Dutch involvement in the Spanish Empire between 1580 and 1700.

In addition, I serve as Editorial Assistant for the New West Indian Guide, am Editorial Board Member of Early Modern Low Countries, Board Member of Werkgroep De Achttiende Eeuw, and work as a freelance researcher.

Soy historiadora y escritora, especializada en historia colonial, marítima y de la esclavitud en la época moderna temprana.

Actualmente me desempeño como investigadora posdoctoral en el KITLV/Real Instituto Neerlandés de Estudios del Sudeste Asiático y del Caribe, donde investigo la transición de la esclavitud a la ciudadanía en el Caribe neerlandés.

En 2025 obtuve mi doctorado en la Universidad de Leiden con una tesis sobre la participación neerlandesa en el Imperio español entre 1580 y 1700.

Además, me desempeño como asistente editorial de New West Indian Guide, soy miembro del comité editorial de Early Modern Low Countries, integrante de la junta directiva del Werkgroep De Achttiende Eeuw, y trabajo como investigadora independiente.
